Distance Education students (UNK students currently enrolled at locations other than the Kearney campus or in online programs) are entitled to the same library services as students taking their classes at the Kearney campus. These services include: access to library databases; reference services; interlibrary loan and document delivery; and checking out books and other materials. The information provided below is intended to help Distance Education students take advantage of the services available from Calvin T. Ryan (CTR) Library.

Access to Library Databases from Off-Campus
On the CTR Library home page you will find links to the library catalog and a variety of indexes and databases. Complete directions for accessing these library resources are given in an information sheet entitled Off-Campus Access. This brochure is available online or you may request a printed copy be sent to you by calling (toll-free) 866.454.4865 or 308.865.8721 or by e-mailing your request to heidenreichs@unk.edu.
Access to periodical (journal and magazine) indexes and databases is available in the "Find Articles" section on the CTR Library home page. CTR Library provides access to a number of indexes and databases for specific subject fields including business, education, the humanities, legal and law, natural sciences and technology, and the social sciences. General databases, many with full-text articles, are also available and include:
Academic One File – with an emphasis on scholarly periodicals, provides coverage of the humanities, social sciences, and general sciences.
Academic Search Premier – provides multi-disciplinary coverage of scholarly and professional periodicals in the social sciences, humanities, general science, and education.
Reference resources, including an encyclopedia, dictionaries, statistical sources, and subject specific resources, are available in the "Online Reference Collection " on the CTR Library home page main menu.

Please leave a message with a brief description of your reference question. Be sure your message includes your name, telephone number, best time to return your call, your class course number and professor’s name, and campus where your class is held. We will try to return your call within 24 hours (except on weekends). After discussing your research question, we will direct you to an appropriate database or reference source.

You may e-mail your research question to the address listed above. Please include the same information you would if you were leaving a telephone message (see above). You will receive a response via e-mail unless you indicate that you wish to contacted by telephone.
Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery (ILL/DD)
Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery service is available to all UNK faculty, students, and staff. Distance Education students may request books and journal/magazine articles not owned by UNK as well as materials available at the CTR Library. Requests for materials should be submitted by using the online Illiad interlibrary loan request forms.
General ILL/DD information:
· It generally takes 2 weeks for delivery of material requested via ILL/DD.
· The Library pays all costs for ILL/DD and reserves the right limit the amount spent on requests.
· The loan period for books is usually 2 to 4 weeks and there are no renewals. Material must be returned to CTR Library by the due date.
· Photocopies of journal/magazine articles do not need to be returned.
· All materials (books, photocopies, etc.) requested by Distance Education students will be sent to them via U.S. Mail. Return postage is the
responsibility of the student.

Visiting Calvin T. Ryan Library
If you visit the UNK campus, you are encouraged to stop in the Library and ask for assistance at the Reference Desk. You may check out circulating library material by presenting your UNK ID card or by providing identification to obtain a special borrower's card.
