CFLs and power quality

Warren Miller on October 28, 2008

The issue of the effect of the change to CFLs on power quality was noted earlier in the year. As an update, the Australian Government's program to eliminate inefficient incandescent bulbs is recognising this problem, and the regulatory impact statement for the intended legislation proposes that CFLs will be required to meet the emission requirements of AS 61000.3.2 (the local adoption of IEC 61000.3.2). This has been strongly supported by the Energy Networks Association, which represents the electricity distributors, who make the point that, without ...

Summary of the Care4it competition

Some of you missed the original news about the Care4it competition and have written asking for details.

Why? Improve electrical energy efficiency. A challenge for students up to 18 years old in schools around the world to submit a striking idea that will help use electrical energy better, more efficiently and make others more aware.

What type of entries?

  • Hardware - design a simple device that measures, detects, or informs about electricity usage, or
  • Software - a widget or software tool that can help people become more aware of the costs of ever increasing energy demands, not simply to their pocket, but to the environment, to the world we’re leaving for the future, or
  • Campaign - an advertisement or a visual that encourages better use, more economy, creates awareness.

How? Refer to the rules on www.wattwatt.com. Email: care4it@wattwatt.com. Look at how to enter.

Win: $10 000 and a trip to Geneva

    Closing date: 31 December 2008
